DiscoverStation® 4 Education and Entertainment Features

DiscoverStation includes everything your library needs to offer safe computer and Internet access using Children's Stations and Kids Stations.

Children's Stations provide customizable access to a selection of age-appropriate edutainment programs, games and optional access to on-line content via a white list of approved child-friendly Internet sites.

Kids Stations enable libraries to offer access to a larger selection of games and programs, and to CIPA-filtered Web sites.

Librarians can add web based games and sites using Userful's secure filtering allowing you to introduce a whitelist of safe pages for kids confident that they can visit no other pages on the Internet.

AisleRiot - A collection of 70 solitaire card games
Ataxx - Dominate the board by reversing your opponent's discs
Black Jack - The Black Jack card game
Denemo - A modal, graphical music notation program which uses a computer keyboard for inputting notation.
Dia - A diagram creation program which can be used to draw diagrams, flow charts and other illustrations.
Five or More - Remove colored balls from the board by forming lines
Four in a Row - Compete to make lines of the same color
Free Cell Solitaire - The popular Free cell card game
Igano - A game of Reversi
Kalzium - A Periodic Table of Elements. Use Kalzium to search for information about the elements or to learn facts about the periodic table.
KBruch - A small program to practice calculating with fractions. Different exercises are provided for this purpose. The program checks user's input and gives feedback.
KEduca - A flash card application which creates interactive form-based tests.
KHangMan - A game based on the well-known hangman game for children aged six and over.
Kig - An application for Interactive Geometry. It allows students to interactively explore mathematical figures and concepts using the computer, and is a WYSIWYG tool for drawing mathematical figures and including them in other documents.

Kig allows users do make and test basic and advanced constructions through an intuitive interface.
Kiten - A Japanese reference/study tool with a convenient English to Japanese and Japanese to English dictionary. It also includes a Kanji dictionary, with multiple ways to look up specific characters and help you learn Kanji.
KLatin - A program to help revise Latin. There are three "sections" in which different aspects of the language can be revised. These are the vocabulary, grammar, and verb testing sections. In addition there is a set of revision notes that can be used for self-guided revision.
KLettres - An application specially designed to help the user to learn an alphabet in a new language, and then to learn to read simple syllables. The user can be a young child aged from two and a half or an adult that wants to learn the basics of a foreign language.

Currently available are: Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, French, Italian, Luganda, Romanized Hindi, Spanish and Slovak.

A toolbar with the special characters per language is now provided if you don't have the correct country keyboard or the keyboard layout to be able to display correctly the accented letter
Klostki - The sliding block puzzle game
KMessedWords - A simple mind-training game in which you have to figure out the word that has been given in the program.
KmPlot - A mathematical function plotter and graphing calculator. It has a powerful built-in parser. You can plot different functions simultaneously and combine them to build new functions.
KPercentage - A small math application that will help pupils to improve their skills in calculating percentages.
KStars - A graphical desktop planetarium. It depicts an accurate simulation of the night sky, including stars, constellations, star clusters, nebulae, galaxies, all planets, the Sun, the Moon, comets and asteroids. You can see the sky as it appears from any location on Earth, on any date. The user interface is highly intuitive and flexible; the display can be panned and zoomed with the mouse, and you can easily identify objects, and track their motion across the sky.
KTouch - A program that teaches touch typing skills, which adjusts to different levels as the typist learns. It displays which key to press next and the correct finger to use.
KTurtle - An educational programming environment using the LOGO programming language. The unique quality of LOGO is that the programming commands are translated to the language of the 'programmer' so he/she can program in his/her native language.
KVerbos - A program teaching the forms of Spanish verbs. The program suggests a verb and a time and the user enters the different forms. The program corrects the user input an gives a feedback.
KVocTrain - A vocabulary program for learning a foreign language or professional jargon. You can create your own files with the words you need.
Mahjongg - Disassemble a pile of tiles by removing matching pairs
Mines - Clear mines from a minefield
Nibbles - Guide a worm around a maze
Robots - Avoid the robots and make them crash into each other
Same Gnome - Remove groups of balls to try to clear the screen
Tali - A poker-style dice game
Tetravex - A puzzle game to match tiles together
